1. Migration

New York / Cracow
2019-2020

102 x 82 cm

Acrylic on canvas

Abstract passionism

————— Migration comes from series of finger tip paintings and originally it was 6 x 10 cm small painting mostly done with fingertips. After transfer to the large canvas painting took different direction and what was on small format turned to be an image of scatter abstract people made of my enlarged to giant size fingertips. The large size canvas allow me refine relations between colors and shapes and did not turn it into depicting image. That’s what I am for in my art suggest rather the describe give the viewer opportunity to create their own visual universe.

2. Last Judgment

New York / Sydney / Kraków
2019-2020

102 x 82 cm

Acrylic on canvas

Abstract passionism

————— Abstract passionism art of control accident. This painting is from series of finger tip paintings (small format of painting approximately 10 x 15 cm created with fingertips). Small painting is a map for large canvas, painting is transferred to canvas them covered with varnish and painted over. While original is enlarged ten times new world previously unseen is unveiled.
I do not intent to create depicting painting rather follow what was unintentionally created. My art is an expression which hints rather then states. I want viewer use his/her imagination to create their world instead of excluding them by painting something recognizable and familiar. My goal is to engage viewer into co creating art by principle that art is in an eye of beholder always!

3. Passage

New York / Sydney / Cracow
2019-2020

182 x 122 cm

Acrylics on canvas

Abstract passionism

————— Passage this painting is another sample of art of control accident. Creative process was based on allowing painting to take its own course by applying colors on canvas without aiming to create any image. This stage is very important because excludes any preconceived idea what painting will be about. Instead let the accident speak out and give direction to second stage.
The second stage follows what was created randomly and develops forms already existing in raw aspect. It is important to balance that act between natural organic look and imposition. Ideally the best result happens when forms appear to paint by themself rather then by painter. It is a process of taping into subconscious mind and bringing that onto the surface of painting.
In my Abstract passionism less becomes more, art indicates rather then explains.
Most important is to open up imagination of the viewer, let him/her participate in building own world based on their imagination and sensitivity.

4. Echo Lake

New York
2019

182 x 122 cm

Acrylic on canvas

Abstract passionism

————— This painting created in NY subconsciously was inspired by Francesco Goya art. As usual in my process I engaged with painting by allowing paint and surface of canvas decide what to do without me controlling what will be painted. At that point my control is limited to administer palette of colors and way I apply them. I do not use brushes which I find limiting instead I use my bare hands and large palette knifes to eliminate any urge to control what happens between paint and canvas. When younger I was committed to detailed studying process which later I found extremely predictable and boring.
Nowadays objective is find excitement and passion in the process itself process which leads me to unknown territories.
It allows me to be fully in present moment which is the high point of meditation therefore it has therapeutic values. ”Echo Lake surprise me through the eyes of my friends. They told about things in that painting which allude me to notice. Considering that painting was created before pandemic there are some powerful connotation and references which speaks out now lauder then ever.

5. Waiting For J Train on Broadway & Lafayette

Opole / Cracow
1980-2020

95 x 72 cm

Oil on canvas

Abstract expressionism

————— This painting is a mile stone in my painting career! This was a one of my first serious attempts into the world of art. In 1980 I become apprentice of my teacher and guru Jerzy Trutkowski aka Trutt who took me under his wing and thought me about painting, music literature, film and theatre. It was a turning point in my life and pretty much convinced me to pursue my artistic path. This is first canvas I stretched with Trutt and first painting executed under his eye. Forty years later I found this canvas (to my surprise) in my brother storage and this discovery gave incredible emotional uplift. My long time career flushed up front of my eyes in split second. I knew that was inevitable to make a closure and paint that canvas from new perspective. I remember struggle I experienced while working on that canvas young now it came to natural and effortless.
I used the same principle of journeying into without preconceived ideas. For some reason being away from my home in New York being lock down in quarantine in Poland triggered image of NY came to the surface. It is memory of the subway station in NY where I use to wait for the train to go to Metropolitan Museum. Walls of that station are peeling away forming admirable abstract statues and creatures visited by man with covered eyes from 1980!
Was it me looking into unknown future?

6. Do You Love Me NY?

Cracow
2020

110 x 100 cm

 Oil on canvas

Abstract passionism

————— This painting was created in the peak of pandemic in my home town New York while being in Kraków. It reflects on my feelings to the city which I spent 31 years. I left New York in October 2019 for art tour around the world (LA, Denver, Alaska, Hawaii, Sydney, Doha, Warsaw, Cracow) and pandemic caught me in my homeland Poland.
Being away from my friends, studio and city I spent the most of my life, prompt me to evaluate my relationship with NYC. I feel that NY will never be the same then again I feel that will somehow become a new NY better or worse but in such dynamic city like NY everything is possible! In this image life happens in illuminated isolation! Neons are flashing but for whom?

Do you still love me NY?

7. Nostalgia

New York / Cracow
2018-2020

120 x 90 cm

Acrylic / Venitian plaster / 24 carat gold leafs on canvas

Visionary Art

————— Nostalgia was directly inspired by Andrey Tarkovsky film Nostalgia. I used the image of boy from the film it is a moment when boy asks his father –Papa is that the end of the world then looks at him with haunting expression!
Nostalgia comes from the period in my art when I still relay on using realistic images combined with abstract. It was a breaking moment when I wanted to depart from depicting style and move towards abstract passionism. Nostalgia echos my nomadic life style. I lived and worked in four different countries and still did not settled permanently in one place. Image of the boy in the sky with airplane propeller in the bottom reminds of my life travels. Nostalgia traveled with me and recently visited three continents US, Australia, Europe. During transportation some of the Venitian plaster from painting cheeped off leaving empty bold spots. For me it is to advantage since cracks are unpredictable and appear naturally. Knowing that I employed in my painting Japanese technique of fixing broken porcelain called Kintsugi.
I feel the holes with clay then with 24 carat gold. It is my Kintsugi Art. In case of some paint falling off I have a policy with my clients that when it happens I come to fix empty spot with the gold. Gold appears to be underneath paint at the same time above it. It creates wonderful illusion of painting being caught between layers.
The gold underneath has other meaning. I believe that when all paints fall off and will be replaced with gold by the end what will remain is pure gold.
To me it is Nostalgia for better times on earth when humanity will experience new renaissance fueled with Love without suffering, injustice wars, poverty and hate.

Neo-renaissance

————— “Kindness” – this painting is the one of the best in my over forty years career! Original was purchased by Amanda Rubin esteemed art collector from NY who’s parents Donald and Shelley created /own Rubin Museum of Art in New York. Amanda brought from Florence an old dirty frame she bought on street and ask me to take a look. After taking first layers of dirt I realized that I hold in my hands original renaissance five hundred years old frame worth thousands of dollars. That was game changer she asked me to paint something suitable the frame. At that time I was heavily pursuing Leonardo sfumato technique. I decided to take on angel from Madonna in the rocks in London and do my recreation of it. To differ from Leonardo I remove clothes from angel and change eyes expression. Right before I began my work my love partner and collaborator Kaori Kayo broke up with me. I was devastated and thought that will not survive this. When I started this painting I literally put all my love into it!
Painting was my savior and sweet revenge because my ex saw it and could not believe that I could paint like this.
I put all of my love and sorrow into this and the final result was astonishing! To this day whenever I see it I can not believe that I painted this! I want this painting back and offered crazy amount of money to buy it back apparently with no luck. I produced exclusive series of ten gicllee prints and this one is third from collection of ten.

240 x 230 cm

Acrylic / Oil on canvas

Abstract expressionism

collaboration: Bret Roberts

————— Bret Roberts (my apprentice and collaborator) return from Mexico to NY to continue his collaborative journey with me. I’ve just finished my large canvas called Journey and begun work on the same size new canvas.
Without hesitation we started working together on that painting. I took care of the bottom part of the painting, Bret for the top. We met on horizon line.
Despite off different painting styles painting looks coherent at the same time surprisingly refreshing.
After the NY show in Henri’s Art Space in Manhattan in July 2019 we decided to begin world art tour.

Painting has been shown in:

Anchorage Alaska – Governor House and Becky Stephan Fine Art Gallery in August,
Bronson Bar art Space Hollywood Los Angeles in October,
Private Collector in Denver Colorado in November,
Honolulu Hawaii in Ken’s Studio in November,
Flow Art Gallery in Sydney Australia in December,
Piwnica pod Baranami Kraków in February 2020.
The next plane to stop was in Doha Qatar, interrupted by pandemic.

11. Letter to Sophia

New York
2017

86 x 62 cm

Acrylics on styroform

Contemporary Renaissance

————— This painting represents my fascination and devotion to my original influencer Leonardo Da Vinci. I have been studying his chiaroscuro and sfumato technique all my life. I have created eight recreations of his paintings as well had the project called Finishing da Vinci which was dedicated to finish unfinished work of Leonardo.
This is a portrait of Sophia my model whom I painted numerous times and who was and is my lifetime inspiration.
In this rendition I wrote a letter to Sophia on panel and then cover it with paint (I lost contact with her some time ago) hoping this painting will find her one day during my art show in NY or something.
I have been traveling with this painting like Leonardo who traveled with Mona Lisa! The content of the letter is attached. Panel I used is treated styroform which was scratched and altered before I painted on it. Those imperfections and unpredictable lines gives that painting contemporary feel which stands out of classical renaissance approach.
